for starters!! he stayed up so late last night trying to study for a test in one of his classes that he ended up passing out on top of his textbooks without remembering to set his alarm. and that meant that by the time the alarm on daichi's phone woke him up, he had just enough time to hurriedly throw on his clothes, grab his stuff, and bolt out the door. naturally, it's pouring outside, and naturally, being late means that he forgot to grab his umbrella, so! by the time he arrives to campus, he's soaking wet and fifteen minutes late for his first lecture. and that test that he'd worked so hard to prepare for? his professor went ahead and decided to push it off until their next class meeting -- which would have been great news, except he promptly got hit by a pop quiz in his next class of the day. (the class that he'd neglected to prepare for properly last night so that he'd have a little extra time to study.) and! just for icing on the cake, when he stops by one of the stores on campus to grab an umbrella to make his trip home a little less miserable...
... suga realizes that he'd forgotten his wallet at home that morning, because of course he did.
so, when he finally makes it back to their apartment, suga toes his shoes off at the front door, drops all of his stuff in a messy heap right at the doorway, and makes a beeline for their bedroom. fortunately, daichi is home -- and right in the middle of studying for something Very Important, if all the books and notes spread out on his bed are any indication, but... suga shambles right on over to him regardless, promptly flopping directly on top of him in a soaking wet heap of misery. ]
[ Daichi's never sure what to do on the rare occasions Suga sleeps late. For himself, he's never had trouble getting up in the morning but that's partly because he always goes to bed fairly early. Suga sometimes teases him about, his inability to let his (metaphorical) hair down even now, but it hasn't steered him wrong yet. He's also pretty fortunate this semester that his classes don't start until somewhat later in the morning, and he's still not completely sure why Suga opted for earlier sessions, but it means this isn't the first time he's heard his own alarm go off and something that sounds vaguely like a cursing stampede happens in the front room. Suga fell asleep out front... he's going to regret that later.
Daichi fires off a couple of hopefully comforting texts during the day but not hearing back means Suga's day has likely been even worse than anticipated so he lets him have some space, holing up in the bedroom with the notes for his marketing class when he gets home. (It's not until he gets home that he notices the second umbrella by the door. Uh oh.)
The stampede turns into an avalanche when Suga gets in and while he's halfway through a page of notes, Daichi still looks up. It gives him just enough time to react. Oh... Suga's soaked, pale, and looks just about half dead. That means when Suga collapses, he's met with open arms.
If it were up to Daichi it would've been open arms and a towel, but you do what you can, even if for now it's just strong hands rubbing circles on Suga's back.]
[ even if he'd be hard-pressed to deny the fact that it already feels a little better with daichi's strong arms wrapped around him, hands rubbing soothing circles into his back. suga's not normally one to complain, but... if he does? it's definitely to daichi. daichi, who always seems to be able to handle it and make it better with ease, who knows when to chime in and when to just listen, and... best of all, who'd never think any less of suga for the occasional slip or rotten day.
and besides, there's no better charm for warding off a bad day than this, nestling up to daichi in the hopes of a little TLC. ]
I'm pretty sure I must be cursed. [ with a huff, tucking his head up under daichi's chin. ] Do you remember how you're supposed to get rid of those?
[Daichi has long known that he gives pretty good hugs. It's one of the benefits of being broad shouldered and, well, not short anyway. His height doesn't matter so much now considering they're flopped back against the pillows, but he knows it doesn't hurt.
It's rare to see Suga like this. He's the strongest fighter Daichi knows and it takes a lot for the world to make Suga want to hide from it. He's always happy to give Suga a safe place to fall when that happens, though, and he tilts his head a little now, resting his cheek on the top of Suga's head to make that place a bit softer.]
Well, exorcism, prayers, figure out if you're being haunted and turn the spirit into a god. [Don't ask somebody who likes history about getting rid of curses. He'll have plenty of useless answers, unless a trip back out into the rain to hit up a shrine is in Suga's plans for the night.]
You've already had a long day, though, so maybe we can just start with a change of clothes and hot food.
and then the smallest little shake in his shoulders, ducking his chin down in an effort to hide his face a little further against daichi's chest. it's hard to tell what he's doing at first, but... yep. those are definitely the noises of someone trying pretty desperately to stifle a fit of laughter (and failing miserably in the process). ... and he eventually just gives into it, caving to a fit of giggling that he only manages to half-muffle into daichi's shirt.
it takes him a minute to get his breath back enough to speak, but... he leans up, presses a kiss against daichi's cheek, smiling against his skin. ] Hey, Daichi...
Has anyone ever told you that you're kind of a nerd sometimes?
[ some of the time... all of the time... distinctions...
... but he only wriggles himself closer, mushing his face back into daichi's chest. ] ... changing clothes means getting up.
[Ahhh, mission accomplished. At first, only for a second, Daichi's worried he made it worse and Suga's crying, but then he's just glad Suga's got his head down and can't see his needlessly worried face when he realizes it's laughter. Laughter is good. Suga's laughter is one of Daichi's favorite sounds, so while he appreciates the attempt to protect his pride, he's glad to hear it.
He smiles when Suga kisses his cheek, turning his head a little when Suga teases him. His face is deadpan when he answers.]
No... what're you trying to say?
[It's hardly a serious sense of offense, though, and he lets his arms settle in around Suga when he cuddles back in. If Suga doesn't want to get up, Daichi's not going to force him.]
You're right. Unless you want me to change you but then you're going to be cold.
... that I'm not quite sure why anyone on the team was scared of you.
[ which is a little bit of a joke! after all, he's pretty familiar with daichi's scary captain face... but he's even more familiar with this side of daichi. he's one of the warmest and most genuine people that suga's ever met, and he exudes a calm steadiness that feels like it can stand up to the weight of anything. ... plus, it's really cute when he spouts off random dorky trivia. who else knows how to banish a curse right off hand?
still, he lets out another little ugh, scrunching his nose. he knows changing now would make him more comfortable later, but... it's hard. life is hard. standing up is hard. changing clothes is hard. ]
I think this is the part where you tell me about all the rewards you'll give me if I can get up and change.
[Daichi grunts softly but otherwise there's no retaliation for Suga saying he's not scary. Suga's the only person he knows who's never been afraid of him, but the flipside of it is he's never needed to scare Suga and he knows he doesn't scare easily (zero effort is needed to scare Asahi, for example). He does wrap his arms a little tighter but that's almost self-indulgent.
There's a thoughtful sigh as the circles on Suga's back turn into lazy up and down strokes. Rewards, rewards. Suga's earned the world but Daichi has to narrow it down a bit.]
I'll go down and put whatever you want to wear in the dryer for five minutes so it's warm, and I'll cook if you're hungry. I think we have all the stuff for ramen and I'll put extra chili in yours. If not, though, we can just crash on the couch and you can cuddle as close as you want until you're warm. And after, I guess.
[He's smiling by the time he's done because that beats a night shut up in their room studying so everybody's going to win with this, but also because he knows there's no way Suga's going to turn down an evening curled up together.]
but then he breathes out a sigh, looking up to meet daichi's eyes with a smile that spreads over his expression like melting butter. sometimes it's a little hard to believe that daichi always seems to know him this well -- suga probably couldn't have come up with a list of more effective bribes if he'd tried on his own, but! here's daichi, offering him exactly what he needs like it's something effortless.
suga's always been sappy enough to believe in soulmates, just never quite optimistic enough to think that he'd find his in high school. ]
That sounds... really perfect.
[ and he dips his head a little to press a kiss to the center of daichi's chest, nearly overwhelmed with the little swell of gratitude that bubbles up inside him. ] ... you sure you don't need to study, though? I sort of interrupted.
[Daichi has to watch to make sure that's a good sigh and not a, "Daichi you're insane," sigh, but when he sees Suga's smile he knows he did pretty well. Doting on Suga is the best possible distraction from boring notes so he may have been a little more indulgent than he otherwise would have been, but seeing the way Suga came in here, well, he deserves it.
He lifts his head to kiss the top of Suga's head when Suga's smooching his chest, then leaves his mouth and nose on his hair as he shakes his head.]
This is for the end of the week, I have a couple more days. Besides, you're more important, and maybe tomorrow we can study together so we can both get caught up.
